Stafford Smith, a Fulbright scholar who is teaching in the International Law Department this term, will present a class on “American Legal Writing”. Mr. Smith is a former administrative law judge who specialized in land use and environmental law issues. The class will review current American trends that favor simplified approaches to legal writing and consider techniques for making legal documents more readable. Specific types of legal writing will be described as well as their various requirements and uses. The class participants will perform writing exercises and a second session may be scheduled in order to pursue writing practices in greater depth.
